From the course
Chervony on the 64
Speaking after the round, Chervony said the day came down to smart tee shots, especially late, once the wind picked up. He called the last four or five holes on the front nine the toughest stretch of his round and credited a couple of good par saves for keeping it going.
His plan for Tuesday is the same one. He expects a later tee time and more wind, so it will be about being strategic off the tee. “Try to hit the fat part of the fairway.”
Elsewhere on the board: Ryan Sullivan of Winston-Salem played the front nine in 5 under with six birdies and an eagle. Defending champion Aidan Thomas came home in 5 under for a 68. Wil Collins, the 2012 champion, made four birdies and an eagle for 67.
