17 PGA of America Golf Professionals to Participate in TCS New York City Marathon, Backing PGA REACH

For the seventh consecutive year, PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America recognized under section 501(c)(3), will continue its tradition of sending a team of PGA of America Golf Professionals to participate in the TCS New York City Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, November 5, 2023.

In 2023, a group of 17 PGA of America Golf Professionals from various parts of the country will take on the challenge of running the entire marathon. Along their journey leading up to the race, they will actively promote awareness for PGA REACH. Their collective objective is to raise a total of $150,000, which will provide vital support for PGA REACH's mission to make a positive impact on the lives of young people, veterans, and diverse communities through the game of golf.

Over the past six years, as an Official Charity Partner of the TCS New York City Marathon, PGA REACH has successfully raised over $255,000 to support its various programs, including PGA Jr. League, PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), PGA WORKS, and PGA Places to Play. PGA REACH joins a group of 550 official charity partners, offering thousands of runners the opportunity to participate in the world's most renowned marathon event.

John Lindert, PGA Director of Golf at The Country Club of Lansing in Lansing, Michigan, and President of the PGA of America, expressed pride and gratitude for the 17 PGA Members who are dedicating themselves to raise awareness and funds for PGA REACH through their participation in the TCS New York City Marathon. He emphasized the positive impact of their efforts in providing resources to introduce, coach, and welcome more individuals to the wonderful game of golf. These efforts have already led to increased youth participation in PGA Jr. League and have brought joy back to the lives of veterans through PGA HOPE. Lindert conveyed his best wishes to the runners, noting that they have the support of the over 29,000 PGA of America Golf Professionals as they run for this noble cause.

PGA REACH has cultivated a strong partnership with the New York Road Runners, a nonprofit community running organization with a mission to inspire and assist people through running. The TCS New York City Marathon, which covers a distance of 26.2 miles and passes through all five boroughs of New York City, including Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan, takes place annually on the first Sunday in November, attracting 50,000 participants.

The TCS New York City Marathon Official Charity Partner Program, established in 2006, has raised over $460 million for more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations worldwide. Prior to the official program, individual philanthropic runners had used the Marathon as a platform for their charitable efforts since the 1980s.
